Youth Ballet Program
Students enrolled in our Youth Ballet Program will be placed according to age, experience, and ability at the discretion of the Artistic Director. Class placement is subject to change in the course of the year. Regular class attendance is essential for the student’s enjoyment and progress and to promote cohesiveness within the class. We encourage students to participate in our additional Dance and Fitness Classes as a complement to their ballet training.
Enrollment for the 2010-11 Youth Ballet Program season is now open, according to the descriptions below. Please use the link at the top or bottom of the page to download the 2010-11 YBP Enrollment Form.
Pre-Ballet for ages 4-6
At this level we will introduce children to the basics of ballet through simple barre and floor exercises. They will be encouraged to develop body awareness and to express their creativity and musicality.
Elementary Ballet Levels 1, 2 and 3
Students in these levels will be taught the basics of ballet technique, putting special emphasis on correct placement and alignment of the body so they will build a strong foundation for their future development.
Level 1.1: Students age 6-7y
Level 1.2A: Students age 7-8y
Level 1.2B: Student age 9-11y
Throughout Levels 2 and 3 students will be introduced to new material in a developmentally-appropriate manner, as well as continuing to focus on the ballet basics through continuous repetition and refinement of previously-studied elements. Beginning in Level 3, girls will be introduced to pointe work at the Directors' discretion.
Level 2: Students with previous training, by audition, approximate ages 10-12y
Level 3: Students with previous training, by audition, approximate ages 12-15y.
Students enrolled in Elementary Youth Ballet Levels 1.2.B, 2 and 3 are eligible and will benefit from participation in Modern Dance for Young Dancers, as well as Jazz Dance.
Intermediate Ballet Level
At this level the students will continue building strength and technique through increasingly challenging barre and center work. Girls will train in more intensive pointe work and dances from the classical ballet repertoire. Boys will take the Male Ballet Training class. Intermediate Ballet students will take the Modern Dance class Saturday at 2PM and are encouraged to consult the Artistic Director about participating in Body Conditioning classes on Tuesday at 5PM.
Advanced Ballet Level
The students in the Advanced level will be trained as pre-professionals. In this level, students will participate in Ballet Technique, Pointe, Variations, and Pas de Deux classes. Students will continue to focus on classical ballet and will have the opportunity to experience the challenge of working on new choreography. Boys will also take the Male Ballet Training class. Advanced Ballet students are required to participate in Variations & Pas de Deux and Modern Dance classes, as well as Body Conditioning.
Variations & Pas de Deux
Students in the Advanced Level will be taught and coached in the standard classical ballet Variations and Pas de Deux from the repertoire of full-length ballets, with the eventual goal of performance opportunities. Intermediate Level students may take this class as an elective, with the consent of the Directors.
Male Dance Training
Boys and young men will be offered separate and/or additional training that is tailored for male dancers. These separate ballet classes will introduce them to the physicality and athleticism of dance for men through exciting and challenging exercises. Ideally, boys will also take a ballet technique class appropriate to their age and experience.
